Oil & Gas
The Oil & Gas industry is usually divided into three sectors: Upstream, Midstream and Downstream.
Upstream operates wells that recover and bring crude oil and raw natural gas to the surface. API 675 pumps are used with chemicals for flow assurance and production, water treatment and hydrate control. API 674 pumps are used for injection and circulation of chemicals: glycol for gas dehydration, MEG injection for hydrate control, water and steam condensate for well stimulation and service. Midstream involves transportation and storage of crude or refined petroleum products, natural gas pipeline networks aggregate gas from natural gas purification plants and delivers it to downstream customers. API 675 pumps can be used with chemicals that are drag-reducing agents or polymers, decreasing turbulence in the oil lines so the oil can be pumped through at lower pressures, along with corrosion inhibitor in gas pipelines. Downstream (also called refinery) sector refers to the refining of petroleum crude oil and the processing and purifying of raw natural gas. API 675 pumps are used with chemicals such as caustic soda, organic sulfur, sour water and antifoam amongst others. API 674 are used mostly for fluid transfer, hydrocracking units, wash water, feed water pumps.
